More servings of fruits and vegetables do really matter for your health. According to Mayo Clinic research, eating 5 or more servings a day reduces stroke risk by 26%. Another study showed 7 or more servings of vegetables and fruits were linked to the lowest risk of death from all causes including cancer, heart disease and stroke.
For this challenge, we’ll shoot for at least 5 servings. It’s not that hard to do… fruit with breakfast, a side salad at lunch, an afternoon apple or vegetables and dip and 2 vegetables at dinner. The challenge will begin on Sunday, August 2nd and will end on Saturday, August, 29. The tracking sheet is attached to this e-mail or you may find a paper copy posted in your location in a few days. To take part in the challenge:
- Start by getting a tracking sheet.
- Each day, cross off any picture of a fruit or vegetable on the sheet for that day when you eat a serving of any fruit or vegetable (what you eat doesn’t need to match the fruit or vegetable that is pictured).
- At the end of the four weeks, make sure that each week is totaled as well as the grand 4 weeks total, fill in all the other information on the sheet then send it to me! It’s that simple.
At the end of the challenge, we’ll hold a drawing for Health Tradition Health Plan’s challenge incentive, a handy hot and cold lunch cooler.
This Wellness at Work challenge has been developed by Mayo Clinic Health System wellness experts. Remember that this challenge is open to all FCC employees – you do not need to be a Health Tradition insurance participant to take part.
