How Exercise Increases Productivity
People associate exercise with the physical or health benefits that it provides, such as reducing body fat, lowering blood pressure and increasing one’s respiratory threshold. Despite these amazing benefits, one important benefit that many people forget is that making time for some form of physical activity each day will actually increase your productivity at work. Everyone has those days when it seems like it is impossible to get any work done, but there is any easy solution; get the body moving.
How It Works
The human brain gets all the credit for this one. According to the Harvard Health Letter, because of the increased flow of blood to the brain during activity, more toxins are leaving the brain while nutrients are taking their place. The Huffington Post also did research, and explained that engaging in exercise increases the development of mitochondria in the brain, which produces ATP, which the body’s main source of energy.
Benefits
Australian researchers found that, participating in 45 minutes of physical activity, regardless of what it is, regularly, could increase memory, energy levels and other important cognitive functions. So not only are you physically strengthening your body, your brain is also getting a work out in.
This is the best part, according to a study done by the University of Georgia; the intensity of the exercise does not matter. Anything that gets your body moving counts, whether it be walking, doing yard work or taking a run. The only downside is that it may take a couple weeks to see any major changes. So, to make your work day fly by a little faster, increase your productivity and create a healthier, happier lifestyle, find 45 minutes at least 3-4 times a week to get your body moving!
