Part-Time Monitor (Safe Visitation) – Winona, MN

BASIC PURPOSE: This position will be under the direct supervision of the Program Supervisor. The Monitor is directly responsible for monitoring the families’ adherence to the rules and procedures of the visitation program and maintaining safety for all families. Monitors will track juvenile and adults clients by phone, unannounced face to face visits, or other assigned means. Monitors will be expected to work night, weekend, and some holiday hours as well as some day time hours, and complete assigned documentation of conducted services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Transportation of children to and from visits in accordance with applicable laws & agency policies as required for case.
2. Supervising visits between non-custodial parents and their children.

  • Maintain a high level of safety for all visits.
  • Report any alleged or suspected child abuse and/or neglect in accordance with program policies.
  • Effective communication with all visit participants and involved parties.
  • Ability to intervene or end visits if parent’s behavior is deemed inappropriate.
  • Ensure participants are following the rules of the visits.
  • Communicate any concerns with the case manager and supervisor.
  • Follow all policies and procedures required by the program to safely supervise visits and/or exchanges.

3. Complete face to face or phone checks of clients in their home, community, or school setting as scheduled.
4. Perform Breathalyzer Test and Urine Analysis as directed by supervisor.
5. Complete documentation of performed services and submit within the expect timeframe.
6. Participate in all required trainings set forth by the program for all services provided, such as monitoring, tracking, testing, etc.
7. Maintain regular and reliable level of attendance and timeliness necessary to perform job responsibilities, including regularly attending staff meetings.
8. Perform all other duties as deemed necessary by supervisor to effectively fulfill job responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ENVIRONMENT:

Education, Training & Work Experience: High School diploma or GED required. A bachelor’s degree or associates degree in human services or a related field (pursing degree is acceptable). Relevant experience may compensate for education. Monitors MUST be 20 years of age or older and have a valid driver’s license. Ability to work effectively and non-defensively with a variety of personalities. As well as being away of and sensitive to the diversity of clients, co- workers, and other persons in the performance of the job duties.

Specialized Knowledge & Skills: Training or experience working with domestic violence cases and child protection cases (not required but preferred). Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and some holidays.

Work Environment & Physical Demands: Work is performed in a variety of settings, indoor and outdoor and employee will be required to lift children. Will be sitting and/or standing for long periods of time.

 

Mental Health Rehab Worker (Hiawatha Hall) – Winona, MN

BASIC PURPOSE: Reporting to Program Supervisor, this position provides direct care services to program clients and helps to ensure a calm and appropriate therapeutic environment in the home.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Client Activities: In coordination with the Program Supervisor and Clinical Supervisor, develop and implement a schedule of therapeutic and recreational activities for residents.

2. Daily Client Care: Provide structure, support and daily organization to residents; conduct therapeutic client encounters daily; manage client emotional and behavioral issues using a variety of techniques including but not limited to crisis intervention and de-escalation; assist clients in learning independent living skills; follow and enforce house schedule and all house rules; conduct hourly checks; serve as role model and mentor to new staff; provide client transportation as needed; participate in scheduled floor time; participate in level assessments; participate in the on call schedule; conduct IMR or other groups as directed by Program Supervisor and Clinical Supervisor in accordance with schedule and curriculum; complete daily logs and encounter notes; dispense medications in accordance with legal requirements and house rules. In absence of RN, fill medication minders, order refills and provide medication education to clients as needed. Staff must remain awake during all work hours.

3. General Team Member Duties: Attend scheduled staff meetings and trainings as required; document therapeutic encounters as required; record client progress toward goal completion in client chart; participate as a member of the treatment team; participate in the development of house policies and procedures in conjunction with management.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ENVIRONMENT:

Education, Training, Work Experience or Licensure:

A Mental Health Rehabilitation Worker must:

  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent: and
  • Meet one of the following qualification requirements:
    • Be fluent in the non-English language or competent in the culture of the ethnic group to which at least 20% of the mental health rehabilitation worker’s client’s belong;
    • Have an associates of arts degree;
    • Have two full years of full time postsecondary educations or a total of 15 semester hours or 23 quarter hours in behavior sciences or related fields;
    • Be a registered nurse;
    • Have, within the previous ten years, three years of personal life experience with mental illness;
    • Have, within the previous ten years, three years of life experience as a primary caregiver to an adult with a mental illness, traumatic brain injury, substance use disorder, or developmental disability; or
    • Have, within the previous ten years, 2,000 hours of work experience providing health and human services to individuals.
  • A mental health rehabilitation worker who is scheduled as an overnight staff person and works alone is exempt from the additional qualification requirements in paragraph (2).

Scope of practice: A mental health rehabilitation worker under the treatment supervision of a mental health professional or certified rehabilitation specialist may provide rehabilitative mental health services to an adult client according to the client’s treatment plan

Specialized Knowledge or Skills: Strong verbal communication skills required; ability to work with and relate to adults with serious mental illness.

Equipment and Applications: Proficient at personal computer standard applications (Word, Excel, E-mail, etc.) Use of fax and photocopy machine.

Work Environment and Physical Demands: Residential environment in a two-story Victorian home. Position may require lifting, carrying or moving of items less than 50 lbs. (groceries, small furniture, client belongings, etc.).
